Robert Ayres is a seasoned professional in indirect tax management with extensive experience leading global strategies. Currently serving as the Group Indirect Tax Senior Manager at Synthomer since December 2020, Robert spearheads indirect tax advisory, compliance, and technology initiatives. Prior to this role, Robert was the Indirect Tax Director at Dell Technologies from September 2016 to November 2020, where responsibilities included implementing indirect tax strategy outside the USA and overseeing Dell EMC’s indirect tax matters. Robert also held the position of Indirect Tax Director at EMC from September 2001 to September 2016, managing a team and annual VAT throughput across 50+ countries. Earlier experience includes a Senior Manager role at KPMG, where Robert contributed to the formation of the VAT Finance Team, and as an Executive Officer at HM Customs & Excise, specializing in VAT audits for large businesses. Educational qualifications include a Master’s degree in Tourism from the University of Surrey and a Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology from the University of Leicester.
