Melih Ozbek, PhD has a varied work experience. Melih started their career at Bogazici University in 2008 as a Teaching Assistant. In 2009, they worked as a Physics Research Intern at CERN where they collected and analyzed data in a big collaboration team setting. Melih then worked at Carnegie Mellon University from 2010-2016, first as a Graduate Research Assistant and then as a Decision Support Analyst and Medical Economics Consultant. From 2016-2020, they worked at Highmark Inc. as a Data Scientist and at Highmark Health as a Senior Research Data Scientist. Since 2020, they have been working at Actium Health as a Senior Manager of Clinical Data Science and Lead Data Scientist. In their roles, they have executed the entire clinical data science pipeline, participated in external client meetings, trained sophisticated machine learning models, implemented end-to-end quantitative solutions, and built quantitative solutions by applying statistical and machine learning methods. Their efforts have projected annual savings of over $10M and enabled over $10M of savings for clients and thousands of life years gained for patients.
Melih Ozbek, PhD obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Physics from Carnegie Mellon University between 2010 and 2017. Melih also obtained a Master of Science (M.S.) in Physics from Carnegie Mellon University between 2010 and 2012. Prior to that, they obtained a Master of Science (M.S.) in Physics from Boğaziçi University between 2008 and 2010, and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Physics from Boğaziçi University between 2003 and 2008. In addition, they obtained a certification in DAT210x: Programming with Python for Data Science from edX in March 2017.
