Rafael Brown has a diverse background in the gaming industry, starting with their current role as the CEO and Founder of Symbol Zero since 2020. Symbol Zero specializes in interactive software development, including games, XR (VR/AR/MR) work, and virtual concerts.
Prior to Symbol Zero, Rafael founded and served as the Creative Director of Digital Leaf Design since 2002. Digital Leaf Design focused on game design consulting for mobile, console, PC, and handheld platforms. Rafael also engaged in various speaking engagements and wrote a book on game design.
In addition to their work at Symbol Zero and Digital Leaf Design, Rafael co-founded Rust Nebula in 2021, where they held the position of CEO and Co-Founder until September 2021. Rafael was also the CEO and Design Co-Founder of Digital Myths, a games and VR tech company, from 2015 to 2020.
Before establishing their own ventures, Rafael worked as a Senior World Designer at 2K, contributing to the design of Mafia 3. Rafael also served as the Creative Director at LIONant, an indie Mobile/Console outfit, and at the Institute of Play's GLASS Lab, where they collaborated with various organizations in the education and gaming industry.
Rafael's career started at id Software in 2010, where they held the role of Project Lead, overseeing design and project management.
