Senior Research Associate, Synthetic Biology at Switch Bioworks

Sarah Joe serves as a Senior Research Associate in Synthetic Biology at Switch Bioworks, focusing on plant-microbe interactions to engineer microbes for biofertilizer production and promoting international business development for Sub-Saharan African farmers. Previously, Sarah held a position as a Bioengineering Intern at Ball Horticultural Company, where optimization of gene expression in ornamental plants was a key responsibility. Earlier experience includes a Plant Proteomics Research Intern role at the University of Florida, investigating protein interactions related to Arabidopsis stomatal immunity, and participation in maize genetics research. Sarah also contributed to the academic community as a Teaching Assistant in plant pathology and agriculture courses and held leadership roles in the Freshman Leadership Council at the University of Florida. Sarah earned a Bachelor of Science in Plant Science focusing on Breeding and Genetics from the University of Florida.
