Mariela Barraza has a diverse work experience that spans various roles and industries. In 2017, they worked as a Business Office Assistant at Alcorn Fence Company, where they carried out office tasks, initiated organizational projects, and provided customer service. From 2017 to 2020, Mariela was a Member of Hermanas Unidas de UCSB, participating in conversations about gender, racial injustice, and mental health, as well as organizing fundraisers for their high school outreach program. In 2019, they volunteered at Isla Vista Elementary, working with a kindergarten class and guiding students in English, Math, and Art activities. That same year, Mariela also served as a Global Intern for the UCSB Education Abroad Program, conducting education abroad outreach and holding advising hours. In 2019 and 2020, they worked as a Calfresh, Food Security & Basic Needs Advocate at UCSB Basic Needs, managing over 100 cases per trimester and providing students and community members with assistance in the Calfresh application process. In 2020, they were a Research Analyst for Mass Shootings in America at UC Santa Barbara, collecting, analyzing, and interpreting mass shooting reports. Mariela was also an Academic Tutor, working with elementary level children and helping them with remote learning and school work completion. Most recently, Mariela joined Swipe Out Hunger as a Partnerships Coordinator in 2021, where they currently hold the role.
Mariela Barraza attended UC Santa Barbara from 2016 to 2020. During their time at the university, they pursued minors in Education and Applied Psychology. Mariela also obtained a Bachelor's degree in Sociology.
