Carl Hemmingsson

Director of Engineering at SweGaN

Carl Hemmingsson has a diverse work experience spanning over several companies and roles. Their most recent position is as the Director of Engineering at SweGaN AB, which they have held since September 2022. Prior to that, they worked at Saab as a Hardware Design Engineer from June 2018 to September 2022.

Before joining Saab, Carl had a long tenure at Linköping University, where they held multiple roles. From 2016 to the present, they served as an Associate Professor, specializing in the growth and characterization of wide bandgap semiconductors. Carl also conducted CFD simulations of crystal growth processes and performed electrical characterization of wide bandgap semiconductors and organic semiconductors. From 2008 to 2016, they were an Associate Professor at the university. And from 2003 to 2008, they worked as a Senior Research Engineer.

Earlier in their career, Carl worked at Zarlink Semiconductor AB as a Device Engineer in 2002. In this role, they were responsible for the fabrication process of resonant cavity light emitting diodes (RCLED) and vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSEL). Carl also performed yield and process improvement of VCSEL, RCLED, and LED devices, and conducted failure analysis using advanced techniques. Prior to that, they worked at Bluetronics AB as a Sr. RF Design Project Manager, where they managed a Bluetooth application development project and designed and simulated a microwave system for radio communication.

Carl also held positions at Okmetic AB as a Development Engineer in Crystal Growth, where they worked from 1999 to 2001, and at Carlstedt Elektronik AB as a Development Engineer, where they worked from 1991 to 1992. In these roles, they focused on designing and testing high-speed digital VLSI circuits, designing a high-speed microcontroller, and contributing to crystal growth development projects.

Overall, Carl Hemmingsson's work experience demonstrates their expertise in engineering, semiconductor growth and characterization, hardware design, and project management.

Carl Hemmingsson completed their education at Linköping University. Carl obtained their PhD in Materials Science from 1993 to 1998. Prior to that, they earned a Master of Science in Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering from 1986 to 1991. In addition to their degrees, Carl Hemmingsson also holds the title of Docent from Linköping University.
