James Littlejohn

Lead VFX Artist at Survios

James Littlejohn has a diverse work experience in the field of VFX and Animation. James started their career in 2011 at DreamWorks Animation, where they worked as an Effects Artist, focusing on creating dust, particle, and fire effects for animated feature films. James utilized Houdini and python to develop complex simulations and tools.

In 2015, they joined MPC as a Pipeline Developer, where they designed tools for managing exporting and rendering in Nuke, and automated test renders for camera tracking. James also worked on asset management using ftrack in Maya, Nuke, Mari, and Houdini.

In 2016, James joined Oculus Story Studio as an FX Artist, primarily using Unreal Engine and Houdini. James created effects, materials, and assets for an animated VR short film. James also contributed to the development of a pipeline for exporting geometry animation from Houdini to Unreal.

From 2016 to the present, James has been working at Survios. James started as a VFX Artist, creating real-time VFX for VR games such as Raw Data, Electronauts, and Creed: Rise to Glory. James later took on the role of Lead VFX Artist, leading a team of two other artists. Their responsibilities include planning VFX in preproduction and creating effects like rain, fire, smoke, and weapon impacts.

James Littlejohn attended Western Guilford Highschool from 2003 to 2007, but did not earn a degree or specialize in any particular field of study during this time. Following high school, they enrolled at Savannah College of Art and Design from 2007 to 2011, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Visual Effects.
