Shannon Lyons serves as the East Coast Regional Director for The Surfrider Foundation since November 2022, bringing extensive experience as a Senior Consultant at TBD Economics, LLC focusing on Marine Protected Areas and Ecosystem Services since November 2017. Previous roles include Director of the Making History Campaign at Chesapeake Bay Foundation (2018-2022) and Instructor at The Bar Method (2015-2022). Shannon led the Chesapeake Program for SouthWings (2016-2018) and held an Adjunct Professor position at Northeastern University, teaching Marine Conservation Biology. Prior work at Lenfest Ocean Program involved managing research projects in marine fisheries policy (2012-2015) and coordinating ecosystem-based management efforts at Maryland Sea Grant (2008-2011). Academic qualifications include a Ph.D. in Marine Policy from the University of Delaware, alongside a Master of Environmental Management from Duke University and a B.A. in Environmental Studies and Anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis.
