Jonathan Chu has a diverse work experience in the animation and gaming industry. Jonathan started their career in 2014 as an Art Director at House of Chai Animation Studio, where they were responsible for overseeing the overall look and feel of a film. Jonathan designed color scripts, style guides, color guides, and set design, and provided daily critiques and direction of visual development throughout production.
In 2014, they also worked at PlayStation as a Visual Development Artist, collaborating closely with art directors and game designers on various unreleased games. Their responsibilities included character design, environment design, prop design, story moment illustration, model packets creation, and VFX concept art. Jonathan utilized traditional drawing skills, 3D modeling, 3D sculpting, photo manipulation, and painting to create visually compelling assets for the games.
From 2015 to 2018, Jonathan worked at Zynga as a Concept Artist, starting as a Concept Artist and later being promoted to Senior Concept Artist. During this time, they contributed to the development of Zynga's games through their artistic skills.
In 2017, they had a freelance role as a Character Designer at DreamWorks Animation, where they worked on a contract basis.
From 2019 to 2020, they worked as a Visual Development Artist at Supercell, and in 2019, they also worked as a Freelance Visual Development Artist.
In 2020, Jonathan joined Scopely as a Visual Development Lead, where they likely had higher-level responsibilities and contributed to the artistic direction of the company's projects.
Finally, in 2023, they began working at Paramount Animation as a Visual Development Artist.
Jonathan Chu attended San Jose State University from 2011 to 2015. During their time there, they studied Animation/Illustration as their field of study. It is not mentioned whether they obtained a degree during this period.
