Melissa Thomas has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Melissa is currently working as a Course Facilitator at Intentional College Teaching, starting in February 2021. Prior to this, Melissa served as the Senior Director of Campus Relations at Study Edge since May 2017.
Before their role at Study Edge, Melissa worked as a Demonstrator at Stampin' Up! starting in October 2013. During their time there, they taught papercrafting classes to individuals of all ages and gained recognition for their expertise, being asked to present on stage multiple times.
In 2016, Melissa joined The University of Texas at Austin as a Lecturer in the College of Natural Sciences. Melissa taught courses such as Critical Thinking and Introduction to Applied Problem Solving. Additionally, they took on the role of Instructional Designer, where they redesigned a freshman course to incorporate problem-solving, ethics, and leadership skills.
Prior to their time at The University of Texas at Austin, Melissa worked as an Online Course Author at Epigeum from July 2015 to August 2016. Melissa also held positions at College of Charleston, starting in August 2012, where they served as the Director of the Center for Student Learning, overseeing academic support activities for thousands of students. During this time, they also worked as an Adjunct Professor, teaching learning strategies courses.
Melissa's career began at The University of Texas at San Antonio in 2006, where they held various roles including Assistant Director, Adjunct Instructor, and Program Coordinator for Graduate Student Learning Assistance. In these positions, they oversaw learning assistance programs, taught courses on study skills and personal development, and developed workshops for graduate students.
Before their work in academia, Melissa worked as a Mediator at the UT Law Mediation Clinic in 2005 and as a Law Clerk at various firms in 2004-2005, including Garlo Ward, P.C.

Melissa Thomas has a diverse education history spanning multiple fields of study. Melissa began their academic journey in 1997 at The University of Texas at San Antonio, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and Speech in 2003. During their undergraduate years, they also attended Tulsa Community College from 1999 to 2000, studying Sociology.
Following their undergraduate studies, Melissa pursued a career in law, attending The University of Texas at Austin from 2003 to 2005. Melissa earned a Doctor of Law degree (J.D.) with a specialization in Jurisprudence.
In 2007, Melissa briefly pursued doctoral work in Developmental/Remedial Education at Grambling State University.
Additionally, Melissa has obtained several certifications throughout their career. In 2005, they became a Certified Mediator through the State of Texas. Later, they obtained a Learning Center Leadership, Level 3 certification from the National College Learning Center Association in 2012. In 2013, Melissa obtained an SI Supervisor Certification from UMKC, and in 2014, they received a Distance Education Readiness certification from the College of Charleston. Most recently, in 2018, they acquired a Lifestyle Coach certification from the YMCA of Austin.
