Eric Spierings serves as an Associate Professor at UMC Utrecht, where Eric has held various academic positions since July 2008, including Director of the HLA tissue typing lab and research focused on organ and hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation. In addition to their role at UMC Utrecht, Spierings is a Medical Immunologist at Stichting Matchis and holds positions as Secretary/Treasurer at Stichting De Blauwe Hut and Treasurer at Stichting De Sokken van Ilias, which engages in musical projects for children with special needs. Spierings is also a Visiting Professor at Universidade Federal do Paraná, Co-president of the International HLA & Immunogenetics Workshop, and previously served as a Senior Postdoc at Leiden University Medical Center, with research dedicated to minor histocompatibility antigens. Academic qualifications include a degree in Biomedical Sciences and training as a Medical Immunologist from the College of Medical Immunologists.
