As senior vice president and president of Starbucks Asia Pacific, Emmy Kan oversees 13 diverse and dynamic markets, driving retail store growth and development, operational excellence and digital innovation in Starbucks fastest-growing global licensed region. In partnership with regional leaders, she leads the growth of the business alongside our people and planet ambitions to continue to drive meaningful progress for the communities Starbucks serves.
Emmy started at Starbucks in 2001, and has advanced Starbucks brand and business in the Asia Pacific region from its earliest days. She has helped grow Starbucks regional footprint tenfold, increasing from around 300 stores in nine markets to over 4,000 stores across 13 markets, and more than 200 partners at the company’s Hong Kong Support Center today.
An inclusive leader with a proven track record of servant leadership, Emmy strongly commits to leading with humanity, elevating the teams she leads and helping them be successful to drive business results. In the last two decades, Emmy had taken on numerous roles that have created a positive impact for Starbucks partners and the organization. She commenced her Starbucks journey in the finance function and was most recently chief customer officer, where she led Product & Marketing and Operations. Prior to that role, she was the chief corporate services officer, where she initiated and set up robust systems and frameworks for the Finance, Partner Resources, Safety & Resilience and Technology functions in the region. Before joining Starbucks, Emmy started her career in finance management at General Electric.
A trusted mentor and an executive sponsor of Empowering Women agenda in the Asia Pacific region, Emmy is committed to helping women across Starbucks achieve and succeed in leadership roles. Her advocacy has led the region towards reaching equal gender representation at leadership levels and 100 percent gender pay equity across the organization, a goal Starbucks is committed to achieving both regionally and globally.
Emmy holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Hong Kong. She lives in Hong Kong with her husband and son and enjoys reading and listening to music. At home, Emmy enjoys Starbucks Sumatra coffee, or a short soy latte when she is at a Starbucks store.
