Chief People & Culture Officer (chro) at Stand for Children

Demian Lucas has a diverse work experience in various HR roles. They are currently serving as the Executive People & Culture (CHRO) at Stand for Children, where they are responsible for leading diversity, equity and inclusion, employee engagement, safety, human resources, compensation, and benefits. In addition, they partner with other executive team members to ensure overall effectiveness. Demian previously held the role of VP of Talent at the same organization, where they led human resources, diversity, equity and inclusion, safety, and employee engagement, and built robust systems to streamline processes.

Prior to Stand for Children, Demian worked at Portland State University as a Graduate Student, Teaching Assistant & Diversity Scholarship Program Coordinator. They also have experience at Portland General Electric, where they held various HR roles including Interim Manager, Talent Acquisition and Senior Human Resource Business Partner. They had a similar role as a Human Resources Consultant at the company.

Demian also worked at NW Natural as a Lead Recruiter, City of Portland as a Senior HR Analyst (Limited Duration), KVO Public Relations as an HR Manager, and Legacy Health System as a Benefit Analyst.

Demian Lucas, MS, CDP, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, holds a Master of Science degree in Communication and a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication, both obtained from Portland State University. In addition to their education, they have acquired several certifications in their field. These include the Certified Diversity Professional (CDP) from the National Diversity Council, the Senior Professional in Human Resources® (SPHR®) Certification from HRCI, and the SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) from SHRM. Demian has also completed the Dare to Lead Trained program by Dare to Lead™ Trained, and holds certificates in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace from USF Corporate Training and Professional Education, as well as Team Performance from The Predictive Index.
