Mark Peppers

Principal Software Engineer at Stable Kernel

Mark Peppers has a long and varied work experience in the software engineering field. Mark began their career in 2000 at Turner Broadcasting System as a Senior Software Developer where they built and maintained a Java-based back-end processing engine for MLB ScoreCast. In 2001, they took on a Teaching/Research Assistant role at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where they taught introductory undergraduate astronomy and physics labs, recitation for undergraduate calculus-based physics, and developed curriculum for a graduate electricity and magnetism course. In 2006, they moved to IAVO Research Scientific as a Senior Software Engineer/Computer Vision Specialist where they kick-started a project creating image maps of large regions from imagery taken from unmanned Aerial Vehicles, created image-processing tools to recognize tie points between stereo satellite or aerial images, and generated dense Digital Elevation Maps (DEMs). In 2007, they returned to Turner Broadcasting as a Senior Web Developer where they developed online ad solutions for 20+ Turner-owned web sites, developed a JavaScript injection tool to display ad placements and parameters, and created a Content Management System. In 2015, they joined Sizmek (formerly DG MediaMind) as a Senior Software Architect where they implemented a proof-of-concept algorithm for identifying web users across different devices, developed a product used by QA to automatically certify web sites, and created an engine to assist QA. In 2017, they moved to PGi as a Software Engineer III where they developed and supported back office integration among conferencing software, billing, mediation, and business intelligence teams. In 2019, they joined Samsara, Inc. as a Senior Software Engineer where they built Go microservices to interface with AWS Kinesis, used TypeScript and React to construct fuel usage reports and safety/security alerts, and was a founding member of the Atlanta-based fuel services team. In 2020, they worked for Tin Roof Software as a Software Engineer III and Cognizant Softvision as a Software Engineer III where they developed Self-Checkout software to interface with legacy NCR POS with microservice architecture, led a project to standardize services, and trained and assisted 3 engineering teams in implementing Go best practices. Mark is currently employed at Stable Kernel as a Principal Software Engineer and Senior Software Engineer.

Mark Peppers received their Bachelor of Science in Physics from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1996. Mark then went on to earn their Master of Science in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2006. In 2022, they obtained an AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification from Amazon Web Services (AWS).
