McKenzie developed a passion for educational equity during high school, which inspired her career in the education field. Although she has never been a teacher, McKenzie takes pride in her role as a capacity builder for schools and school districts, working as an ally to help remove barriers to success. She identifies as a "partnerships person," dedicating her career to engaging, cultivating, and elevating partnerships in support of a larger mission. Most of her professional experience has been in the educational sector, focusing on building capacity within schools and districts. McKenzie holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Psychology from New York University.

McKenzie's favorite childhood book was "There's a Wocket in My Pocket" by Dr. Seuss.
