Lee Smethurst has a strong background in RF and opto-electronics design, with experience in developing Gigabit multi-channel optical transceivers and media converters. They have also worked on hybrid manufacturing for space and harsh environments. Lee has held the position of Principal Development Engineer at Spectrum Control since August 2009. Prior to that, they worked as a Senior Engineer at QinetiQ from February 2005 to July 2009, focusing on high frequency multi-chip MMICs packaging, EM simulation, circuit and board level design, and antenna design and evaluation. Before joining QinetiQ, Lee was a Senior Engineer at Bookham Technology from December 1998 to February 2005, where they worked on the development of high-speed optical transceivers and transponders and carried out tasks such as crosstalk reduction, high-frequency optimization, yield improvement for transceiver products, and optical module characterization. Lee began their career as an Engineer at GEC Marconi, Materials Technology, where they conducted research on a microwave frequency optical communications system, semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) research, and microwave simulation and optical design from September 1995 to December 1998.

Lee Smethurst completed a Bachelor's degree in Electronics & Computer technology at the University of Salford from 1991 to 1994. Following this, they pursued a Master's degree in Opto-electronics at The University of Manchester, which they obtained from 1994 to 1995.
