Aklilu Tulu's work experience begins in 2011 when they worked as an Avionics Electronic Technician for the US Navy. In this role, they performed maintenance on aviation electronics systems and repaired and replaced faulty components.
In 2017, Aklilu worked as a Firmware/Software Engineering Intern at Teledyne SeaBotix, Inc. Aklilu designed and developed a software application for controlling a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) using C#, and also assisted in interfacing brushless DC motors to a microcontroller. Aklilu also contributed to documenting software interface specifications.
In 2018, Aklilu worked as a Hardware Engineering Intern at Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR). Their responsibilities included designing and implementing energy-saving measures for HVAC systems using model predictive control. Aklilu also designed and implemented a long-range communication system and interfaced various sensors with microcontrollers.

Aklilu Tulu attended the University of San Diego from 2015 to 2019, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree and a Bachelor of Art (BA) degree in Electrical Engineering. Prior to that, they studied at Addis Ababa University where they earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Physics.
