Carlos Clanton

Carlos Clanton is a Board Member at Southeastern Cooperative Educational Programs. Prior to this, they served as the Senior Director of Resource Development & Community Engagement at Hampton Roads Community Action Program from August 2017 to June 2019. In this role, they served as the Chief Fund Development and Communications Officer for the agency and oversaw the planning, coordination, and implementation of strategies that support the efforts for donor cultivation, increased contributions, promotional materials, and partnerships to support the organizational growth. Carlos also assured operation of fund development, and marketing systems to increase visibility and community-wide engagement. Furthermore, they strengthened youth programs by expanding the base of support, operational efficiency, and reporting outcomes.

Some notable accomplishments during their time at Hampton Roads Community Action Program include creating the annual agencies development and strategic communications plan, leading the planning process for major events such as the Annual Dinner, proposing new strategies to diversify the unrestricted funding base (which resulted in a 60% increase in unrestricted Agency Revenue in Year 1), overseeing the development of new partnerships in education, government, media, and business, developing the legislative policy for the organization and engaging on behalf of the organization at the local, state, and federal government levels with a primary focus on youth as well as health and wellness opportunities. Carlos also participated in community forums, conferences, training, and other activities representing HRCAP to ensure engagement throughout the region. Additionally, they led the Agency’s United Way Campaign: Southside and Peninsula.

Carlos Clanton has a Master of Public Administration from Old Dominion University, a Bachelor of Science in Occupational and Technical Studies from Old Dominion University, and a Certificate of Non Profit Management from Tidewater Community College. Carlos also has certification from the Community Action Partnership in ROMA "Results-Oriented Management and Accountability" Implementer, the Council on Accreditation in Performance Quality Improvement, and Tidewater Community College in Certificate of Non-Profit Management. Additionally, they are certified by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in (IOM) Institute of Organizational Management, the American Management Association in Corporate Etiquette, Product Management, and Project Management.
