Brenton Hastie has a diverse work experience in the field of emergency services and planning. Brenton began their career in 2009 with the SA Country Fire Service, where they served as Commander and Operations Planning for five years. Brenton then worked for the Government of South Australia as a Team Leader in NRM Planning before joining the Country Fire Authority as a Project Manager for Planned Burning. In 2015, they became the Executive Officer at the Torrens Resilience Institute. In 2016, they returned to the South Australian Country Fire Service as a Regional Operations Staff Officer before being promoted to Regional Commander for Region 2 in 2017. In 2021, Brenton joined the South Australian Country Fire Service as the Director of State Operations and later became the Acting Executive Director of Operations in 2022. Their experience spans leadership, project management, and planning in emergency response.
Brenton Hastie completed their education at Flinders University. In 1997, they began their studies at Glenunga International High School, where they attended until 2001. Afterwards, they attended Flinders University from 2005 to 2006, earning a Masters of Environmental Management with a focus on fuel management. In 2010 to 2011, they returned to Flinders University to pursue a Graduate Certificate in Public Sector Management, a program they completed through the SA Government.
