Fiona Cisternas has four years of work experience. In 2020, they began working as a Software Developer for SOLUTE. In 2019, they worked as a Writing Mentor for the Analytical Writing Program at UC San Diego, where they assisted an instructor with 13 students over two quarters, and held individual and group meetings to facilitate learning and writing. In 2017, they began working as a Research Assistant for the Comparative Cognition Lab, where they created and executed a research project using Ultra Wideband technology, and assisted in running over 40 participants through the study. Finally, in 2019, they worked as a Research Assistant/Instructional Design Intern for the UCSD Design Lab, where they engaged in design methodology with graduate students and professors, created a unique website design, and learned how to iterate on designs quickly and meaningfully.

Fiona Cisternas obtained a Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Science with Specialization in Design and Interaction from UC San Diego between 2016 and 2020.
