Strachan Forgan

Principal, San Francisco at SOLOMON, CORDWELL, BUENZ & ASSOCIATES, INC

Strachan Forgan has guided the direction and expansion of SCB’s high-rise commercial work since joining the firm in early 2012, and today serves as a Principal and Executive Director of the firm’s San Francisco office. Strachan brings a wealth of experience in a variety of building typologies, architectural vocabularies, and cultural discourses to his work with SCB. Strachan’s projects dot the West Coast and cross the Pacific Ocean, and include 30 Van Ness, a mixed-use office and residential tower in San Francisco’s new “Hub” district; Skylyne, the final, and tallest, phase of the new MacArthur Transit Village in Oakland; Atelier, one of the first new apartment towers to be completed in downtown Los Angeles’ emerging residential market; and the award-winning Anaha Tower in Honolulu’s Ward Village. A common thread connecting Strachan’s highly varied designs is his sensitivity to context—both environmental and cultural.

Prior to joining SCB, Strachan was a Principal at Sasaki Associates, where he designed and managed commercial, institutional, and public projects nationally and internationally. Strachan has been the recipient of numerous design awards, including an AIA SF Design Award for Energy + Sustainability, American Architecture Award, and numerous industry recognitions and awards for his urban residential projects. He has presented extensively on a variety of industry topics at such institutions as the New York Academy of Sciences, United States Green Building Council, AIA San Francisco, and the AIA National Convention.

Strachan holds a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Arts, both with First Class Honors, from the University of Nottingham, UK. He previously practiced in London and Kuala Lumpur. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and is an elected member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
