Laurie M. has over 18 years of work experience. Laurie began their career in 2000 as an ELD Teacher at El Dorado Middle School, where they designed a program to help English Learners to learn and acquire English to a level of proficiency. Laurie then worked as a Teacher at Tassajara Hills School from 2002-2010, where they inspired and motivated students in learning reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and the arts. In 2016, they began working as a Retirement Specialist at MyLifeWerks Insurance Services, LLC, and also as a Director of Education and Communications at Smile Stations.

Laurie M. obtained their Bachelor's degree in Developmental and Child Psychology from California State University, Chico between 1983 and 1986. Laurie then obtained their Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from University of the Pacific - Benerd College in 1989. In 1997, they obtained their Master's degree in Elementary Education and Teaching from San Francisco State University. In addition, Laurie M. has obtained several certifications, including a California State Life Insurance License from the State of California in 2016, as well as several courses from Coursera Course Certificates and UC Irvine in 2014 and 2016.
