Óscar Paz began their career in 2006 as an Assistant Professor at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) where they developed computational methods for the simulation of microscopy images in surface physics and studied atomic and electronic structure. In 2008, they became a Postdoctoral Researcher at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, where they were in charge of a project about new materials for the design of high-density information storage devices, funded by Intel Corporation Labs. Óscar was an expert in high-performance computing (HPC) and created computer codes and data post-processing tools. In 2010, Paz worked as a Research Associate at the INSTITUT DE CIÈNCIA DE MATERIALS DE BARCELONA (ICMAB-CSIC) where they were the Principal Investigator in 3 research activities at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS). Óscar studied radiation damage in ceramics for use in fusion reactors and developed, debugged and benchmarked linear-scaling algorithms for the global optimization of energy functionals. From 2014 to 2016, they worked as a Project Engineer at Sgenia, where they designed plasma diagnostics equipment for the ITER fusion reactor and simulated advanced pressure devices by Monte Carlo (physics) and FEA (engineering) techniques. Óscar also code parallelised and implemented algorithms for stochastic events. Since 2017, Paz has been the Technical Director at SMEBOOK, where they are responsible for designing the software architecture, development of backend features, analytics & modelling, QA & security, and implementation of marketing techniques. Óscar is also the coordinator of frontend designers and backend team.
Óscar Paz obtained a Bachelor of Science in Fundamental Physics from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 2000. Óscar then went on to complete a Master of Advanced Studies in Surface Physics from the same university in 2002. Finally, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy in Condensed Matter Physics from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 2007. Additionally, Paz has obtained several certifications, including Programming with Python for Data Science from edX in September 2016, Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Computation from edX in August 2013, Doctores en la Empresa from INSTITUT DE CIÈNCIA DE MATERIALS DE BARCELONA (ICMAB - CSIC) in December 2012, and Gestión de la Ciencia y la TecnologÃa from Dirección General de Universidades e Investigación in April 2006.
