Steve Cary is an experienced engineering leader currently serving as the Sr. Director of Engineering at Slack, where Steve has held various roles since July 2014, starting as a Staff Software Engineer and contributing significantly to the Android app's successful rewrite before transitioning to engineering management. Prior to Slack, Steve was a Member of Technical Staff at Index, where Steve was the first non-founding employee and instrumental in scaling the company. Steve's earlier experience includes a tenure as a Senior Software Engineer at Google, focusing on software for networking equipment, and an internship in Platforms Engineering at Google. Steve holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo, earned in 2007.
