Tim T. has a diverse work experience spanning over three decades. Tim'smost recent role is as a Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist at the Broadband Consortium of the Pacific Coast since March 2022. Prior to this, they founded a company called RGNL in 2018.
In 2005, Tim founded SimpleLayers, Inc., a cloud platform for GIS collaboration. Tim developed the platform using open-source technologies and has pending patents for the technology.
From 2014 to 2017, Tim worked as the Western US Representative for Junar, a cloud platform for Open Data. Tim saw the potential for combining Open Data and web-GIS technologies to improve governmental infrastructure.
Tim also worked as a GIS & Data Management Specialist at Oneida Total Integrated Enterprises (OTIE) from 2006 to 2008. Tim developed a web-delivered data reporting system using their own software at SimpleLayers.
In the early stages of their career, Tim worked as a Collections Coordinator for the Alexandria Digital Earth Prototype, a research project funded by the NSF. Tim gained experience in software design, project management, and working with technical workers.
Tim started their career as an Intern Volcanologist at the U.S. Geological Survey in 1991.
Tim T. attended Occidental College from 1986 to 1991, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Geology. Tim furthered their education at UC Santa Barbara from 1998 to 2000, earning a Master of Arts degree in Geology.
