Hans Zhang is currently the solar coordinator at Simbi Foundation. Prior to that, they were a transmission engineer at Powerex from May 2019 to June 2021. Before that, they were a quality management engineer at BC Hydro from June 2017 to May 2019.
Hans has always been interested in engineering and how it can be used to improve people's lives. When they were younger, they were fascinated by how electricity could be used to power homes and businesses. This led him to study engineering in college. After graduation, Hans began their career at BC Hydro as a quality management engineer. In this role, Hans was responsible for conducting factory inspections of equipment suppliers, investigating the quality management systems of suppliers, and evaluating vendor submissions for critical substation protection equipment.
In May 2019, Hans left BC Hydro to join Powerex as a transmission engineer. In this role, Hans advised real-time traders and Powerex executives on impactful transmission congestion and outages in the Pacific Northwest. Hans also leveraged data analytics tools to capture and convey insights from historical transmission and generation data to drive key executive-level asset investment decisions. In June 2021, Hans left Powerex to join Simbi Foundation as the solar coordinator.
Hans Zhang has a Master of Business Administration from NYU Stern School of Business, a Master of Engineering in Electrical and Computer Engineering from The University of British Columbia, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from McGill University. Hans is also certified by the Project Management Institute as a Project Management Professional (PMP) and by Engineers and Geoscientists BC as a Professional Engineer.
They work with Daniel - (Lead Grant Writer), Cynthia Hoy - SEO, and Emma Thompson - TRIP Coordinator. Hans Zhang reports to Ran Sommer, Co-Founder / Director of Operations.
