Tessa Mayorga is a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner at Sierra Tucson. She is also a registered nurse and has worked in several inpatient treatment centers in the area, having the opportunity to support people with a variety of backgrounds and needs. She has been practicing SE since finishing her 3-year training in January 2017 and has continued to expand her education about the human nervous system, treatment of trauma, and stress-related conditions since then. She participated in a one-year course with Kathy Kain and workshops with teachers such as Peter Levine, among others. She is also a mentor while assisting for the SE certification training. SE is a naturalistic and collaborative approach to working with stress and trauma stored in the body and nervous system in order to develop more resilience and ease in our lives. It works by building the skills to renegotiate and reintegrate difficult experiences. SE has a strong emphasis on mindfulness and compassion, honoring where each person is in their journey and supporting their strengths and healing capacity. Tessa works to support each person’s nervous system in perceiving safety, deepening somatic awareness, and recovery from trauma.
