Simon Long has extensive work experience as a software engineer and software research engineer. Simon is currently working as a Principal Software Engineer at Shorthand. Prior to this, they worked for Topcon Positioning Systems as a Software Engineer for six years. Before that, they were a Software Research Engineer at Radar Portal Systems for six years. Simon also has experience as an intern at Sun Microsystems and Sun Labs, Australia. Simon began their career as a programmer at Auran Pty, LTD. In addition, Simon worked as a Tutorial Assistant at The University of Queensland, where they taught courses in engineering project management, C++/.NET programming, signals processing and systems. Simon also developed curriculum and assessment methodologies for engineering student courses and wrote software assessment tools in Perl. Simon's early career includes a research scholar role at the University of Queensland's UQBT Project.

Simon Long attended The University of Queensland from 1998 to 2002, where they earned a combined Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics (BE/BSc). Simon'sstudies primarily focused on the field of Electrical Engineering and Mathematics.
