Karen Robinson has over 20 years of work experience, starting in 1997 as a Tutorial Fellow at The University of Queensland. Karen then worked as a Research Scientist at the Distributed Systems Technology Centre from 2003 to 2005, where they were involved in the design and prototyping of software for context-aware mobile applications. Karen then joined NICTA as a Researcher from 2005 to 2007, contributing to interdisciplinary research projects and co-developing an OASIS standard for emergency messaging.
In 2011, Karen became a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The University of Queensland, leading an interaction design project focused on mobile apps for children with severe food allergies. Karen collaborated with stakeholders at Brisbane children's hospitals, managed ethics applications, and published research papers. From 2015 to 2016, they worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at QUT, where they developed and evaluated software for people with cognitive differences.
Karen's most recent role was at Shorthand, where they started as a Data Scientist in 2017. In 2018, they became the Head of Growth and Marketing, responsible for shaping Shorthand's go-to-market strategy, leading marketing and growth functions, and managing data infrastructure and analytics. In 2021, Karen was promoted to VP Growth, continuing their work in utilizing data for product-led growth.
Karen Robinson earned their Bachelor of Information Technology with First Class Honors (B. Inf. Tech (Hons I)) from The University of Queensland. Karen completed this degree between 1996 and 1999. Later, between 2000 and 2003, they pursued their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Science at the same institution.
