Karen Milstead

ESL Instructor at Shorelight

Karen Milstead has a diverse work experience in the field of language instruction. Karen worked as an ESL Instructor at Shorelight from November 2016 to the present. Before that, they were a Language Consultant from 2003 to 2020 while being self-employed. From August 2014 to July 2016, they worked as an EFL Instructor at the English Language Institute/China (ELIC). Prior to that, they served as an Adult Education/ESL Instructor at Southern Union State Community College from August 2007 to July 2014. Karen also has experience as an English Teacher at Chambers Academy, Auburn High School, and Valley High School from 2004 to 2007. Karen started their career as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in Auburn University's English Department from 2002 to 2004 and worked as an English Teacher at J. M. Tate Senior High School from 2000 to 2002.

Karen Milstead has a Master of Arts degree in English, which they obtained from Auburn University from 2002 to 2004. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education with a focus on English Education from Louisiana Tech University, where they studied from 1996 to 2000.

In addition to their degrees, Karen has acquired several certifications. In August 2020, they obtained the Alabama Professional Educator certification in English for Speakers of Other Languages from the Alabama Department of Education. In July 2020, they earned the Alabama Professional Educator certification in English Language Arts from the same institution. Furthermore, in August 2014, they completed the Teaching English as a Foreign Language certification from Wheaton College.
