Michael Stivers has diverse work experience in technical writing and management roles. Michael currently serves as the Senior Technical Writing Manager at ShipHawk since 2022. Prior to this, they worked at QAD for over 15 years, where they held positions such as Technical Writing Manager and Principal Technical Writer. At QAD, they collaborated with international teams and implemented XML DITA content management system. Michael also led projects in developing content in DITA and REST APIs. Before QAD, they were a Corporate Communications Technical Writer at Yardi Systems, Inc. and held various positions at Openwave Systems, Inc., including Manager of Technical Publications. Michael also worked as a Senior Technical Writer at Alias|Wavefront. Additionally, they have experience in teaching technical communication at the University of Washington and working as an English Teacher in the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program. Furthermore, they began their career as a Technical Writer at Wavefront Technologies, Inc. in 1988.
Michael Stivers has a diverse education history. From 2021 to 2023, they attended UC Irvine and obtained a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). In the years 1994 to 1997, they pursued their M.S. degree in Technical Communication / Human Centered Design & Engineering (HCDE) at the University of Washington. In 1992, they completed an Intensive Language Program in Japanese at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. Finally, from 1981 to 1985, Michael Stivers attended Santa Clara University, where they earned their B.S. degree in Computer Science / Engineering.
