Joshua Harris is the current CTO at SHAKE. Prior to this, they worked as a Senior Policy Adviser for the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) from March 2019 to August 2020. In this role, they were responsible for providing high-quality policy advice and cross-government leadership on online safety issues. Joshua also led engagement with industry, the third sector and wider government on a range of policy challenges relating to safety online, owning the relationship with the UK Council for Internet Safety (UKCIS) and overseeing the Secretariat for UKCIS. Their team developed Government's Online Media Literacy Strategy and delivered high-profile initiatives around online media literacy and user resilience, awareness and education.
Prior to their work at DCMS, Joshua Harris worked as a Senior Policy Adviser for the Cabinet Office from January 2018 to March 2019. In this role, they led on Parliamentary handling and key cross-government legislation for the National Security Secretariat, supporting Parliamentary inquiries and co-ordinating the cross-government responses to them, overseeing delivery of key cross-cutting priorities by other government departments, and providing high quality advice to the PM, No 10, and the National Security Adviser.
Joshua Harris completed a Bachelor of Arts in Theirtory at Oxford University and achieved AAAA in their A-Levels, studying Theirtory, English Literature, Theatre Studies and Economics at Westminster School.
