Steve Borst has nearly two decades of experience in various leadership roles in the fields of biotechnology and life sciences. Steve served as the Chief Executive Officer, President, and Board Chairman at Q Therapeutics, Inc., where they led the development of a human cell-based therapeutic product for treating degenerative disorders of the brain and spinal cord. Prior to that, they were the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Corporate Development at Q Therapeutics.
In addition to their work at Q Therapeutics, Borst co-founded and served as the Managing Director of UpStart Life Sciences Capital, a seed stage venture capital fund focused on the medical device, drug delivery, diagnostics, and bio pharma sectors. Steve also co-founded Sera Prognostics, a start-up that contributed to the formation of UpStart Life Sciences Capital and successfully started 12 companies. Borst was involved in the discovery of specific predictive protein signatures in the blood of pregnant women who delivered their babies pre-term.
Earlier in their career, Borst served as a General Partner at UV Partners, a position they held for two years.
Steve Borst received their Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan between 1978 and 1981. Prior to this, they attended Calvin University from 1975 to 1978, where they studied Math, Science, and Engineering. Later, between 1989 and 1991, they pursued further education at Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management, earning a Master's degree in Accounting, Marketing, and Organizational Behavior.
