Brian Sisk

Chief Technology Officer at Sepion Technologies

Brian Sisk's work experience began in 1995 at Western Kentucky University, where they worked as an Undergraduate/Graduate Student specializing in high-temperature thermosets. Brian then moved on to work as a Graduate Researcher at NASA Glenn Research Center in 1999.

In 2000, Sisk joined the California Institute of Technology as a Graduate Student, earning their Ph.D. in Chemistry by 2004. Brian then started working at Raytheon in 2005 as a Staff Scientist in the Sensor Signal Processing Group. During their time there, they served as Principal Investigator for various government contracts and R&D projects.

Sisk transitioned to Johnson Controls in 2011, initially holding the position of Modeling and Simulation Domain Leader before becoming the Director of Modeling and Controls. Brian was responsible for leading modeling, simulation, and controls research for global lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries. Sisk also established and grew an algorithm and sensor analysis group, focusing on state of charge and state of health estimation. Brian received accolades including JCI Merit Award for the development of a micro-hybrid product.

In 2015, Sisk joined A123 Systems as Vice President of Product Development. Brian played a crucial role in establishing A123 as a market leader in automotive lithium-ion batteries. Sisk worked at A123 Systems until 2020.

After leaving A123 Systems, Sisk joined Rivian as the Senior Director of Energy Storage Systems. Brian led the development and launch of battery systems for Rivian's electric vehicles, including the R1T truck, R1S SUV, and Rivian Prime Van for Amazon. Sisk reported to the VP of Propulsion Systems at Rivian.

Sisk's most recent work experience is as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Sepion Technologies, starting in 2023. Sepion Technologies focuses on developing innovative polymer and electrolyte technologies for battery materials, specifically enabling lithium-metal anodes. Their patented polymer technology aims to bring fast charge performance to the world of Li-metal anodes and has potential applications beyond battery materials.
