Abir Arkawi possesses extensive experience in architecture and historic preservation, serving as Vice Dean at the Faculty of Architecture Damascus University and faculty member since 1997. Arkawi has held various expert roles, including with the UNDP/PRC on natural and cultural site management in Syria and as a project director for the conservation of Khan Assad Basha. Contributions also include work with the Syrian Environment Association and the Directorate General of Antiquities and Museums. Arkawi earned a PhD in Historic Preservation and Conservation from Technische Universität Dresden, where advanced studies were completed from 1990 to 1997.
