Ben Weinryb Grohsgal has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles.
Ben is currently a Senior Backend Engineer at Scout since December 2021. Prior to that, they worked at Citizen from February 2018 to December 2021 as a Senior Software Engineer and Engineering Manager.
At Citizen, Ben was responsible for working with technologies such as Golang, Node, and Python. Ben joined as the second backend engineer and eventually led and managed a team of engineers. Ben deployed a range of products including a social network, app and feed redesigns, internal moderation tools, and A/B testing tools. Ben also implemented a migration to a more modern stack using Postgres, Cassandra, and Redis.
Before joining Citizen, Ben worked at BuzzFeed as a Senior Software Engineer from February 2017 to February 2018, a Software Engineer from March 2016 to February 2017, and a Data Analyst from March 2015 to February 2016.
In addition, they have experience at various organizations such as Booz Allen Hamilton as a Senior Consultant from June 2014 to February 2015, Harvard Kennedy School of Government as a Research Assistant from September 2012 to June 2014, Mayor's Office of Civic Innovation as a Summer Innovation Fellow in 2013, Business and Industrial Affairs Department, Littleton, CO as a Harvard Ash Center Fellow in 2012, U.S. Department of State as a US Fulbright Fellow in Bangladesh from September 2010 to May 2011, Habitat for Humanity Leeward Oahu as an Americorps VISTA Construction Development Coordinator from September 2009 to August 2010, and Solidarity and Action Against The HIV Infection in India as a Volunteer from October 2008 to May 2009.
Ben Weinryb Grohsgal attended Columbia College, Columbia University from 2004 to 2008, where they received a Bachelor's degree in Architecture. In 2008, they pursued an Advanced Language Fellowship in Bengali Language and Literature at the American Institute of Indian Studies in Kolkata. From 2011 to 2014, they furthered their education at Harvard University, completing a Masters in Urban Planning (MUP) at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and also earning a Master of Public Policy (M.P.P.) in Social and Urban Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School.
