Matt Merrifield serves as the Chief Technology Officer at The Nature Conservancy, leading a team dedicated to the innovative use of geospatial technology in nature conservation, particularly in coastal and marine programs. With a career that spans several roles in various organizations, including Techstars as an advisor for the Sustainability Accelerator and Scoot Science, Merrifield emphasizes the importance of technology in addressing global challenges such as climate change. Matt's previous experience includes serving as the Principal Investigator for the MarineMap Consortium, where Matt developed a web-based spatial decision support system for marine protected area design. Merrifield's foundational education includes a BA in Geography from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MA in Geography focused on Resource Management and Environmental Planning from San Francisco State University.
