Yashar Kalani has a long and varied work experience. Yashar began their career in 2004 as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at HHMI and Stanford University School of Medicine. In 2008, they moved to Lund University as a Postdoctoral Scholar. From 2009 to 2014, they were a Resident and Fellow in Cerebrovascular, Endovascular and Skull Base Surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center/Barrow Neurological Institute. Yashar then became a Fellow in Skull Base Surgery and Neuro-Oncology at the Centre for Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery. In 2016, they joined the University of Utah School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery. In 2017, they moved to the University of Virginia School of Medicine, where they served as Vice Chair and Director of Cerebrovasuclar, Endovascular and Skull Base Surgery and Director of Skull Base, Cerebrovascular and Endovascular Neurosurgery. In 2019, they took on the role of Surgeon-Scientist at Ingenuity, LLC. Yashar currently serves as Chief Medical Officer at SCA Robotics.

Yashar Kalani completed a BS/MS in Chemistry and Biochemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles from 1998 to 2002. Yashar then went on to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemistry from Caltech from 2002 to 2004. After that, they attended Stanford University School of Medicine and obtained a Doctor of Medicine (MD) in the Molecular Basis of Medicine from 2004 to 2008. Yashar then attended the University of Oxford and completed a M.B.A. in Business Administration from 2018 to 2020. Yashar is currently enrolled in Oklahoma State University, where they are pursuing a MHA in Health/Health Care Administration/Management, which they are expected to complete in 2023.
