Thorsten Hornung has a long and varied work experience. Starting in 1989, they were self-employed for five years. In 1997, they began working for Accenture as a Managing Director. In 2014, they began working for Fraunhofer UMSICHT as a Business Developer. During their time there, they were responsible for preparing and executing the spin-off of a technology venture for the commercialization of an innovative biomass waste-to-energy technology. Thorsten then took over the CEO responsibility for the new venture, Susteen Technologies GmbH. In 2020, they became the Chief Executive Officer of Saperatec GmbH.

Thorsten Hornung began their educational journey in 1991, when they attended the University of Stuttgart and earned a Diplom (Master equivalent) in Aerospace Engineering in 1997. Thorsten then furthered their education at the Kellogg School of Managerment/WHU Vallendar, where they received an Executive MBA in General Management in 2005.
