Camie Barnwell is an experienced communications professional currently serving as the Director and Public Information Officer at the Santa Barbara County Education Office since January 2022. Barnwell has a diverse background in journalism and public relations, having worked as a freelance journalist for Santa Barbara Independent from 2006 to 2023 and as the Chief of Communications for Santa Barbara Unified School District from April 2019 to December 2021. Previous roles include community outreach and communications at Citrix, and public relations and marketing at Chumash Casino Resort and Hotel Corque. Barnwell began a career in journalism as a staff writer for Santa Barbara News Press from 1997 to 2006, where awards were earned for coverage of various subjects including education and politics. Barnwell holds a Bachelor's degree in Print Journalism and Spanish from the University of Southern California, a Master's degree in Educational Counseling from the University of Laverne, and a Master's degree in Education/Social Justice from Antioch University Santa Barbara.
