Richard Phernetton has a diverse work experience in various engineering roles. Richard started their career as an Engineering Assistant in the United States Air Force from April 2008 to May 2010. Richard then joined the Air Force Research Laboratory as a Spacecraft Guidance and Control Engineer from July 2015 to December 2018. During this time, they were responsible for creating fault detection and control measures for space flight experiments and developing custom attitude planning software for successful mission outcomes.
In December 2018, Richard became a Flight Commander in the United States Air Force, where they led a team of 13 senior officers in the development of 1,500 Airmen per year. Richard also implemented a VBA scheduling tool, which allowed for 24/7 coverage and reduced wasted man hours.
From January 2021 to January 2023, Richard worked as the Deputy Chief Engineer - Ground Systems Engineering at the United States Space Force. In this role, they integrated the efforts of a large operations team controlling multiple satellites and managed a prototype mission planning software development project.
Currently, Richard is a Machine Learning Engineer in the DoD SkillBridge Program at SandboxAQ since January 2023. In this role, they develop, refines, and deploys state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms to solve GPS-denied navigation challenges. Richard also implements automated data validation and cleaning pipelines and creates dynamic data visualizations of product performance.
Richard Phernetton earned a Master's degree in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology, graduating in 2023. Prior to that, they obtained a BS degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical Engineering from the United States Air Force Academy in 2015. Additionally, in May 2023, Richard obtained certification as an AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner from Amazon Web Services (AWS).
