Kaiwen Yuan has a long and varied work experience. In 2011, they worked as a Research Assistant at the State Key Laboratory of Multiphase Flow in Power Engineering, where they built a mini Solar-Wind hybrid power plant to experiment optimizing the output with Artificial Neural Network (ANN). In 2013, they were an Intern at China Petroleum & Chemical Co., Ltd., a Research Assistant at The University of British Columbia, and Co-founder & CMO at Siyuan Consulting Inc. (上海樓營教育科技有限公司), where they provided mentoring services for graduate school applicants. From 2014 to 2016, they worked at Wiivv in various roles, including Software Engineer, Machine Learning, Software Engineer, Backend, Mechatronics Engineer Lead, and Product Development Engineer | Founding Engineer. In 2017, they joined Postmates by Uber as an Engineering Manager, Senior Machine Learning Engineer | Tech Lead, Machine Learning Engineer II, and Machine Learning Engineer I. In 2020, they moved to Uber as an Engineering Manager of Serve Robotics. Finally, in 2021, they joined Serve Robotics as an Engineering Manager & Engineer, Perception, Prediction and ML. Currently, they are the Director, Staff Engineer of Machine Learning and Computer Vision at curbFlow.

Kaiwen Yuan holds a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Artificial Intelligence & Robotics from The University of British Columbia, a Master of Applied Science in Mechatronics from The University of British Columbia, a Bachelor's degree in Energy and Power Engineering from Xi'an Jiaotong University, and studied Clinical Medicine at Xi'an Jiaotong University and Power Mechanical Engineering at National Tsing Hua University.
