Sergio De La Fe is currently the Industrials Leader and National Enterprise Accounts Leader at RSM US. Prior to this, they served as partner at KPMG US for 18 years, where they were responsible for client service delivery for External Audit and Consulting Services. Sergio also served as an alternate member of the KPMG National Audit Quality Council.
Sergio has over 25 years of experience in the accounting field. Sergio began their career at Extended Stay America, where they served as Director of Financial Reporting. In this role, they were responsible for SEC reporting, corporate accounting, property accounting, accounting and financial systems, and budgeting and forecasting. Sergio also led SEC registration statements for $1.5 billion in equity and debt financings and responded to SEC comment letters.
At KPMG, Sergio served global clients in the Fortune 500 and middle markets, in the Consumer Products, Retail, Industrial Products and Financial Services industries. Sergio provided services such as financial statement audit, financial reporting controls, internal audit, Sarbanes Oxley compliance, IPO readiness, FCPA compliance, process improvement and implementation, BSA/AML compliance, IT system implementation and merger and acquisitions integrations and due diligence. Sergio also served as the Audit Training and Methodology Partner for the South Florida market leading and coordinated local methodology and technical training. In addition, they served as Southeast leader for Enterprise Risk Management Services (ERM), leading practice development and service delivery on Fortune 500 and middle market clients.
Sergio led the development, implementation and deployment of Great Places to Work Initiatives for the Florida Practice and served as a board member of the KPMG Sergio'spanic/Latino Network diversity Advisory Council. Sergio also served for 3 years in the KPMG Global Services Center (GSC) in Montvale, NJ where they were responsible for or assisted in the development, implementation and deployment of knowledge management initiatives, global audit methodology tools, national resource management technologies and processes and global risk management technology and processes.
Sergio has been involved with XBRL since 2000 when they served on the XBRL committee of the AICPA as the Domain committee co-chair. Sergio was responsible for the development of the first XBRL taxonomy. In 2001 and 2002, they led initial discussions with the FDIC, FED and FFIEC for the modernization of the member bank reporting process to XBRL which resulted in the FFIEC adopting XBRL as a standard technology. XBRL is now used by the SEC as a core technology platform.
