Carlos da Cruz Alves is the current manager of Course Development at the Centre for Teaching & Educational Technologies at Royal Roads University. Carlos has over 9 years of experience in environmental engineering, including risk assessment, technical specialist support, proposal writing, and project management.

Prior to their current position, Carlos was a senior environmental engineer with Golder Associates Ltd. for just over a year. In this role, they provided technical support for a project of a dam crash disaster monitoring in more than 400 kilometers of a river. This included soil, sediments, surficial water, and groundwater monitoring. Carlos was also responsible for technical and commercial proposal writing and coordination, as well as being the project manager for investigation and LNAPL mobility projects.

Before joining Golder, Carlos worked with Advisian for almost 9 years as a technical specialist. During their time with the company they worked on risk assessment projects for metals and organic compounds across Brazil. Carlos provided technical support and reviews for remediation and investigation projects, as well as being responsible for proposal writing. Carlos was also the design manager for remediation projects involving pilot tests, design, implementation and operation and maintenance for reactive barriers, thermal projects, chemical oxidation, bioremediation and Soil Vapor, and Fluids Extraction. In their final years with the company they developed a training program to help mentor junior professionals.
