Giacomo Fontanelli has a diverse work experience in the field of agricultural remote sensing and environmental science. Giacomo started their career as a PhD Student at the IFAC-CNR Institute of Applied Physics in 2009, focusing on GIS technologies and remote sensing of agricultural ecosystems using SAR sensors. During this time, they also collaborated with CESBIO in France for monitoring an agricultural semi-arid area in Tunisia. After completing their PhD in 2013, they joined IREA-CNR as a Post-Doc research fellow until 2016. Here, they gained expertise in agri-environmental science and remote sensing for crop production and the environment. In 2016, they joined Rothamsted Research as a Research Fellow, where they utilized their knowledge to provide ground truth for compliance data, crop recognition, and soil and crop quality indicators using high-frequency and high-resolution satellite data. Currently, they are a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Istituto Fisica Applicata Carrara - CNR.
Giacomo Fontanelli began their education in 1990 at the Istituto Tecnico Industriale T.Sarrocchi in Siena, where they obtained a High School Diploma in the field of "Electronic and Telecommunications Chief" in 1995. After completing their high school education, they attended the Università degli Studi di Firenze from 1997 to 2007, earning a University Degree in Forest and Environmental Sciences. In 2010, Fontanelli pursued further education at the University of Basilicata, obtaining a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Remote Sensing in 2013. Additionally, in June 2010, they obtained a certification in CAD-CAM technologies at the European degree level III.c.
