Shelby Yee began their professional career in 2013 as an Energy Operations Strategy Intern at TransCanada. In 2015, they worked as a Spectator Transportation Coordinator for the 2015 Pan Am Games at IBI Group. In 2014, they founded RockMass Technologies through the Queen's Innovation Centre Summer Initiative and was the recipient of $30,000 of seed funding. As a Geological Field Methods Teaching Assistant at Queen's University, they evaluated students' progress and mentored them throughout their geological engineering degree. In 2017, they were part of the HAX Hardware Accelerator, Batch 11. In 2018, they joined the Creative Destruction Lab, Prime Stream Toronto. In 2020, they were recognized as a Forbes 30 Under 30.
Shelby Yee obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Geological Engineering from Queen's University. Shelby also participated in an Academic Exchange Program in Civil Engineering at Nanyang Technological University Singapore. In addition, they have a Basic Underground Hard Rock Miner Service Types – Common Core certification from NORCAT, which they obtained in July 2016.
