Duncan Laurie began their work experience as a System Administrator at Santa Clara University from February 1997 to May 1998. Duncan then joined Sun Microsystems as a Software Engineer from May 1998 to December 2000, and later became a Staff Engineer from December 2000 to September 2005. Duncan then moved to Google where they held the position of Staff Software Engineer from October 2005 to June 2010, and subsequently became a Principal Engineer from June 2010 to June 2021. Currently, Duncan is working as a Software Engineer at Rivos Inc. from June 2021 onwards.

Duncan Laurie attended Santa Clara University from 1995 to 1998, where they studied Computer Engineering.
