James Packwood has extensive experience in the oil and gas industry, with a focus on petrophysics and geosciences. James began their career as a Petrophysicist at Core Laboratories in 1990 and later worked as a Research Geophysicist at Amoco and Geophysicist at BP Amoco. In 1999, they joined Sun Microsystems as a Software Engineer, where they performed competitive analysis and collaborated with internal and vendor engineers. In 2004, they became a Petrophysicist at British Petroleum, providing formation evaluation and rock physics modeling for various reservoirs. At ConocoPhillips, where they worked from 2007 to 2013, they led core analysis projects and developed core analysis protocols. James then joined Newfield Exploration as a Sr Staff Petrophysicist, providing petrophysical support to exploration and development efforts. At EOG Resources, they worked as a Petrophysical Specialist, developing updated petrophysical models and conducting well logging and core analysis programs. James joined Marathon Oil Corporation in 2017 as a Senior Advanced Petrophysicist, providing petrophysical support for development projects and leading logging and core analysis programs. Currently, they are the Senior Vice President of Geosciences at Riley Exploration Permian, Inc., where they manage reserves, directs geology and geophysics projects, and improves understanding of key assets through petrophysical analysis.
James Packwood completed their Bachelor of Science degree with Special Distinction in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Oklahoma, from 1980 to 1984. James then pursued further education at Stanford University, where they obtained both an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Geophysics from 1993 to 1997.
