Richard Sparkes has a diverse work experience spanning over several companies and roles. Richard started their career at GCHQ in 1992, where they served as a Senior Analyst, focusing on RF transmission methods and digital communication systems.
Following their time at GCHQ, Sparkes joined Orange in 2000 and held positions such as Senior Network Designer, where they designed new services for the consumer network, and Senior Technical Consultant, providing bespoke mobile data services to large corporate customers.
In 2006, Sparkes joined Kineto Wireless as a Senior Sales Engineer, promoting and selling Femto Cell solutions to mobile operators. Richard later became the European Programme Manager, managing the integration of Kineto's software into Android devices provided to UMA operators in Europe. Additionally, they served as a Programme Manager, working with Sprint and major device manufacturers to plan and launch a WiFi Calling service.
Sparkes then worked at Sonus starting in 2014, where they held roles such as Director of Program Management, overseeing the deployment of Sonus pre-IMS WiFi Calling technology, and Product Line Manager.
Most recently, they joined Ribbon Communications in 2018. Richard started as a Product Manager for Ribbon Unified Communications products, managing a portfolio of products and coordinating with R&D teams. Richard then transitioned to the role of Product Manager for 5G and MEC, developing the company's strategy for 5G, Private Networks, and Multi Access Edge Compute.
Throughout their career, Sparkes has demonstrated expertise in telecommunications, product management, program management, and technical consulting.
Richard Sparkes attended Bradford Grammar School from 1979 to 1987. Richard then went on to pursue a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronic Engineering at the University of Hull, completing their studies from 1987 to 1991.
