Jim Wailes

Senior Consultant for Cybersecurity, Privacy, and Risk at Reveal Risk

Jim Wailes has over 20 years of work experience in cybersecurity, privacy, risk management, and law enforcement. Currently, they are working as a Senior Consultant for Cybersecurity, Privacy, and Risk at Reveal Risk since July 2022. Prior to this, Jim held various positions at the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department/Indianapolis Police Department, including Task Force Officer for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (Cyber Squad) from May 2021 to June 2022, Digital Forensic Examiner from March 2015 to June 2022, and Intelligence Investigator from July 2008 to March 2015. Jim also served as a Task Force Officer for the United States Secret Service Financial Crimes and Identity Theft Task Force from February 2019 to March 2020. Between July 2008 and May 2011, they were a Task Force Officer/FBI Field Intelligence Group/Intelligence Task Force. From May 2008 to July 2008, Jim worked as a Detective in the IMPD Robbery Unit, and they started their law enforcement career as a Patrol Officer at the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department in July 2002. Additionally, Jim served as an Intelligence Analyst in the US Army's Indiana Army National Guard from April 1997 to April 2005.

Jim Wailes obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology from Ball State University, where they studied from 1994 to 2000. Jim pursued further education and completed a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance from Western Governors University from 2018 to 2022. Jim also holds multiple certifications, including the GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC), Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP), CompTIA Network+ ce Certification, CompTIA Secure Infrastructure Specialist – CSIS Stackable Certification, CompTIA Security+ ce Certification, and CompTIA A+ ce Certification. Additionally, they have obtained various certifications and micro certifications in subjects such as programming, web security, databases, network forensics, and ITIL Foundation.
